SCC CALL FOR ENTRY
“Flatland Fibre – Off the Wall”
will be a SCC Gallery exhibition showcasing three-dimensional fibre works by Saskatchewan fibre artists. We want to show off our fabulous fibre arts during Quilt Saskatchewan 2009 when the Saskatoon Quilters Guild hosts a national quilting conference – The Canadian Quilters’ Association Alternate Year Event, May 27 – 30, 2009. Let’s see 3-dimensional fibre works in all sorts of techniques - quilts, wall hangings, clothing, sculpture, felting, knitting, weaving, and so on. The sky’s the limit.

SCC Exhibitions & Education Coordinators will curate the exhibition from submitted entries. Leslie Potter has a Master's degree in Fine Art and is a sculptor and teacher for U of S Certificate of Art and Design; Judy Haraldson is an award winning weaver with a Diploma in Applied Arts – Weaving from SIAST Woodland. Both have extensive experience with many craft mediums and Fine Craft exhibitions.

Deadline Reminders: We’ve been rolling out a lot of exciting new opportunities in the last few weeks, so there are a lot of deadlines for participation coming up. If you are interested in:
Erotic Craft Show and Sale - Deadline for entry is Wednesday, January 21.
Gardenscape Sale Opportunity - Deadline for expression of interest Wednesday, January 21
Land of the Loon Show and Sale - Deadline for entry is Wednesday, February 18

New Market Update: The names of the new market in Moose Jaw, May 9 & 10, is the SpringCraft Fine Craft Market. The Lloydminster market September 12 & 13, will be the Harvest Moon Fine Craft Market. Rodney and Hazel Peterson win fame for coming up with the name of Harvest Moon for Lloydminster. For fortune, he will have to wait till September when he has a great sale. Also, special thanks to Val and Richard for sharing their gallery's name.

Wintergreen Publicity: Next year, Wintergreen will be on the same weekend as Our Best to You. In an earlier e-news, we’d raised the possibility of doing joint promotion between the two sales. Since then, we’ve heard from several members saying that this is a bad idea.
The arguments for a joint promotion are:
- Joining forces would allow us to maximize our media buy, and
- We could target people who just attend Our Best to You to convince them to see Wintergreen as well.
The arguments against a joint promotion are:
- It would create confusion amongst patrons.
- Wintergreen is seen as the quality sale in Regina – associating with Our Best to You would hurt this valuable perception.
What do you think? Let Chris - scc.memberservices@sasktel.net • 653.3616 ext. 24 or Mark - scc.director@sasktel.net • 653.3616 ext. 27

Broadway Craft Gallery: The SCC has reached an agreement with the Broadway Business Improvement District to create the “Broadway Craft Gallery” from April 14 to 18. This will involve having a small craft show and sale in each business in the Broadway district. Where possible, the Craft will be tied to the nature of the business (e.g. vases in the flower stores, piggy banks in the banks). Work will be for sale with a 40% commission being charged. Details will be sent out shortly, but in the meantime, start thinking about creative fits for your work with different types of stores.
