07. Craft producers, Disasters and Insurance
It’s been widely reported that former SCC Board Chair Ken Wilkinson suffered major fire damage to his studio. He believed that his home-owners insurance would cover him for a disaster like this. However, since he was operating a studio, the insurance situation is at best complicated and at worst dismaying.

We believe that many SCC members could be in the same predicament if disaster strikes. As a result, the SCC has been discussing these issues with the Affinity Insurance Services to see if there is a way that a package tailor made for craft studios can be developed by insurers.

Therefore, if you are operating a studio on premises only insured by your home-owners or tenant packages, you very likely are not insured for many aspects of your craft practice.

If you want to both protect yourself and help Affinity work with insurance companies to develop a package for craft producers, please call Glen Hufsmith at 306.242.8822. He will request an appropriate coverage package from several insurance companies. With your permission, he will also use the information gathered to work with the SCC to attempt to get a policy tailored for craft producers.
