01. Summer Interns Hired
We are pleased to announce the hiring of two summer interns. Lisa Folkerson and Biliana Velkova will be assisting with various research and curatorial needs. The positions were made possible by funding from SaskCulture's Student Employment Experience Program and Canada Summer Jobs Program.
02. 2009 Annual Meeting Report
The SCC Annual General Meeting was held on May 24th at the estate of Lou Paquette. Highlights of the meeting included:
- Approval of the by-law changes for the revamped membership categories.
- A briefing on the (then proposed) acquisition of Traditions Handcraft Gallery, Regina.
- Election of board members.

03. Traditions Handcraft Store Acquisition
The SCC has reached an agreement with Cheryl Wolfenberg and Carol Serediak to purchase the Traditions Handcraft Gallery in Regina. The business will be operated by a for-profit subsidiary of the SCC known as SCC Enterprises Ltd.
The SCC will be taking possession of Traditions on June 30, 2009. Our plan is to operate over the summer without too many changes, and then close in the fall for renovations.
The acquisition of Traditions will allow the SCC to directly market Saskatchewan Fine Craft, and will give us an “on the ground” presence in Regina.
We will be hiring two part-time store clerks for Traditions. If you or anyone you know is interested in this, please send your resume to Mark Stobbe at scc.director@sasktel.net.
04. Waterfront Craft Art Festival: Timeless Beauty
One Day Only - Saturday, June 13, from 10:00am to 5:00pm. You can find it under the Whirly-gig at River Landing, Saskatoon (Spadina Crescent between 2nd and 3rd Avenue).

05. Saskatchewan Successful in "Unity and Diversity" Competition
11 pieces of Saskatchewan Fine Craft will be travelling to South Korea as part of the "Unity and Diversity" exhibition at the Cheonju International Craft Biennale. The Saskatchewan pieces were unveiled at a press conference held at Kramer Ltd. in Regina before being transported to Edmonton for crating.

06. Korean Cultural Tour Lottery
The winner of the Korean Cultural Tour Lottery is Ron Anderson. Ron's a glass blower from Shellbrook, and plans to take his wife Anne on this dream vacation. The winning ticket was drawn at the More Big Fun auction on May 18th. You can still purchase a tour package to see the Cheongju International Craft Biennale and other cultural treasures of Korea.

CARFAC SASK is seeking 8 evolving artists and established mentors to participate in the CARFAC SASK mentorship program, which pairs qualified and experienced professionals with visual artists wishing to develop professional skills, enhance their art practices and/or change media. 02. Kick Off to Canada Day Street Festival
The event will be held on behalf of the Battlefords Immigration Resource Centre and it will run from 11:00am-6:00pm on Tuesday June 30th, 2009 in North Battleford. The festival will be held downtown with the street blocked off from traffic. There will be a BBQ, music, entertainment, activities for kids, and other booths set up.

INFLUX Jewellery Gallery invites artists to interpret the theme of “The Red Hot Show” for our autumn exhibition of contemporary art jewellery. 05. RBC Award for Glass
The RBC Award for Glass is a national award for glass artists. Thanks to the recent partnership with the RBC and the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery, the award is presented to a practicing early career artist who has been working professionally for between 5 to 10 years.
DEADLINE: received by July 31, 2009 by 5pm. The winner of the RBC Award for Glass will receive $7,000.00. View the attached PDF for details.

03. Culture on the Go grant deadline June 26
The Saskatchewan Arts Board pilot program Culture on the Go: Touring and Market Access encourages creative ventures and partnerships in touring and market access in order to provide the people of Saskatchewan with increased exposure to the province’s artists and artistic products. 06. Broadway Art Encounter
Broadway businesses and shops are transformed into exhibition spaces bringing art out of the gallery and into the every day. Friday, June 5 & Saturday, June 6th, from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

07. Design Group - Open Studio

08. Paul Lapointe Exhibition - Bark, Paper, Stone
Handmade House will be presenting a new show by Paul Lapointe entitled BARK, PAPER, STONE. The new show will run from June 1 to July 25. Paul says, "These works are created with chance, openness, and intuition. The materials originate in River Lot 28 near Batoche, where I live."
09. Raven’s Room Gallery
This summer, the SCC is operating the Raven’s Room Gallery in partnership with the Land of the Loon Resort. The first show, consisting of work by James Korpan, Melody Armstrong, and Barbara Goretzky opened for the May Long weekend, and will be running until June 30th. (click here for poster) If you are heading “up to the lakes” this summer, be sure to stop in and see this great show.
The second exhibition will run from June 30 - Sept. 8, 2009. The artisans are: Brent Parkin, Sue Robertson & Heike Fink.

A group of artists will assemble for the inaugural collaborative visual art event. They will create a masterpiece of public art under the watchful eye of 3000 music festival goers.

This site also has images of artwork produced by local artists and guest artists. Friday the 19th, 8pm, features Pipes and Fire, with the Prince Albert Pipe Band evoking the flames of a pottery pit fire. This is set on the hill overlooking the river at Riverview Arts. 16. South Korea - Fine Craft & Cultural Tour 2009 - Sept 18 – Oct 1, 2009
The Canadian Crafts Federation, provincial craft councils and partner organizations proudly present a unique 14 day cultural tour of South Korea. With a focus on fine craft and cultural traditions, this tour is a once in a lifetime experience. Travel with fellow Canadians interested in craft and cultural practices, network with artists, academics, and gallery owners, and connect to the many cultural organizations in Korea. A special tour highlight includes a visit to the Cheongju International Craft Biennale, the largest fine craft event of its kind with work from over 40 nations. Canada is the featured guest country for 2009, showcasing contemporary Canadian fine craft. Part of the proceeds raised by the tour will support Canadian participation in the Biennale.
