Janet L. Wiens
For Janet Wiens, the love of animal companions was instilled early, within an isolated prairie farm upbringing during the 1950s. Janet carries this imprinted connection into her present day subject choices.
After studying Art and Design at the University of Saskatchewan, she embarked on a thirteen-month adventure across Europe. Seeing the many works of the great masters was a huge inspiration for her. Upon returning, she studied drawing at the Emily Carr College of Art, as well as Advertising and Design at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. She then spent a number years in various areas of Canada and the U.S. finding classes and workshops of interest.
Children now grown, Janet has settled into her Saskatoon home studio with her two cats. Here she allows her memories and experiences to arise in her paintings. These symbolize her perception of ‘the natural order of life’ and her inner sense of living in it. Her enjoyment of detail and colour is woven across her canvases.
Her current painting style in acrylics was developed subsequent to classes at the University Extension Division and Emma Lake Art Camp.
Janet presently shows and sells within her community and her art is in homes across North America. Future plans include larger pieces, a solo show and an international audience. An updated blog is currently in process.
