Vivian Wasiuta
she/her
I create unique handwoven wearable accessories and heritage quality household items using natural fibres. This includes scarves, shawls, and cowls, along with throws, table runners, rugs, and towels. My background is in earth, water, and atmospheric sciences and ceramic art. A post-shingles syndrome forced me to totally alter my life. Weaving began as therapy and soon became a passion.
I’m captivated by the processes of weaving at the loom and designing projects. A Leclerc Colonial 1 floor loom with eight harnesses is my main tool. I love to experiment with different weave structures, yarn combinations, and colourways. I also naturally dye weaving yarn and lately have been experimenting with dyes from locally-foraged vegetation.
