Jill Cope

she/her

As a fibre artist, Jill loves to take traditional materials and make them into something non-traditional, while experimenting and exploring along the way.
She is drawn to anything fibre (wool, fabric, thread) as a creative medium because of its texture, warmth, and ability to morph into anything she wants it to be. Jill loves colour, texture, whimsy, and shiny things. These are the patterns and themes in her work.

Intrigued by felting, art quilting, snow dyeing, upcycling fabrics, batik, fabric rubbings, and monoprints on fabric, Jill enjoys how the experimentation in one medium, leads to a breakthrough in another.

Jill is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan’s Art and Artisanship Advanced Certificate Program. She now teaches a textiles class in the Program, in addition to being a mentor for graduating students. And she has been honoured to complete commissioned work as well. Jill is a member of SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates).

You’ll find her house littered with fabric and yarn scraps, glitter, beads, and art projects in every room, along with fibre dust bunnies running wild. If she is not having fun with a project, then Jill moves on to one that gives her joy. She finds time every day to take another step on her creative journey.
