Emma Bound

This exhibition showcases the eclectic, imaginative and energetic work of the 2016 EMMA International Collaboration participants and invited guest artists. Featuring work in many media, including wood, fibre, ceramics, mixed media and visual art, it is a vibrant show that the whole family can enjoy.

Setup for heat treat1Tell us about your creative process – in general and/or specifically for your Emma Bound piece.

A well made functional knife/tool has been essential in my works. I’m fascinated with how many ways you can take a well made functional tool and make it look different every time. As long as I do not compromise the functionality in the design, I’m happy.

What currently inspires you and which other artists do you admire and why?

I’m inspired by the people who can make a living creating.

Raised in Saskatchewan. The best place on earth.

Tell us if this is your first time or 10th time attending Emma International Collaboration. What are you looking forward to?

This is my first time to Emma. I’m looking forward to many things, from meeting new people and renewing old meetings, to seeing, learning, exchanging and creating with people from such diverse backgrounds and interests.

What does “making collaborative art work” mean to you? Is it a struggle to “let go” at times?

I’m about to find out.

Think about and respond. Open and organic process.

What currently inspires you and which other artists do you admire and why?

Lines inspire me. Huge admirer of Craig Campbell,  Miranda Jones, Sandra Dunn, all the metal workers, all the woodworkers and more. The skill, precision and joy artists have is what I admire.

Where are you from and what do you love and/or hate about that place?

Saskatoon, love the nature in the city. Hate not having a large art space.

My second time! I am a newbie still. Looking forward to getting my hands dirty.

What does “making collaborative art work” mean to you? Is it a struggle to “let go” at times?

Frustration, negotiation, support, spark, motivation, new perspectives, and feeding the creative soul.
