Aaron Salamon

A self-taught stone sculptor, Aaron Salamon first picked rocks on his family farm by the Cut Arm Creek, near Bredenbury, Saskatchewan. Aaron was influenced by a creative family: his mother’s painting, his father’s wood and steel working, his grandparents’ music, and his maternal grandfather’s lapidary work. A mechanical technologist by trade, Aaron also enjoys the technical considerations of selecting the right hand tools and the right stone—soft soap stone, medium alabaster, or hard granite are some options.

Aaron’s first exhibit, “The Last Few Years,” a tribute to his late mother, won Estevan’s Adjudicated Art Show in 2013. Having found therapy in hand carving, Aaron eagerly shared his methods, tools, and variety of stones during The Estevan Visual Art Tour in 2014 and 2015. Subsequent works have made appearances at the Estevan Art Gallery’s Members show and at Siever, Vermeersch and Fonstad accounting firm.  His current solo show, “Power and Beauty,” showcases admired figures in their glory overshadowing both the labour that gives them their strength and the labour of the artist. On Sundays you can find Aaron in “the shop.”
