Corinne F. McKay

Corinne F. McKay (Thorsteinson) Born November 28, 1950 Daughter, wife, partner, mother, friend, artist. _ On November 13, 2004, Corinne lost her battle with Multiple Myeloma, an aggressive form of blood cancer. Her positive attitude, sunny disposition and creative sense of style will be missed greatly by all who knew her. Corinne is predeceased by her father, Stephen Thorsteinson; and her brother, Stephen ‘Steve’ Thorsteinson. She is lovingly remembered by her mother, Cecelia; sister, Carol; husband, Gordon; son, Lee; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, numerous friends and colleagues. Growing up in the Vancouver area, Corinne developed a unique sense of style that led her to the Vancouver School of Art (Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design). It was here that she met and married Gordon, her partner of 35 years. Her greatest joy came in 1974 with the birth of son, Lee. In 1993, she completed her B.F.A. at the University of Saskatchewan, receiving the University Medal in Fine Arts, as well as the Judy Poole Memorial Award. During her career as an artist, Corinne gave her time to several local fundraising and art projects. She was particularly proud of her work with children through the U of S extension division’s Dramatically Different Art program, the Children’s Discovery Museum and private art classes. A come-and-go celebration of Corinne’s life will be held on Saturday, November 20 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the McKay home in Saskatoon. Donations in Corinne’s memory to the Saskatoon Cancer Centre’s stem cell transplant program would be appreciated.
