Earl Eidem
Earl Eidem was raised in Saskatoon, where he eventually returned, to the family business. He worked in a creative environment, which he wanted to continue into retirement after 51 years of work. Knifemaking was interesting and rewarding but because the heat treat process by others was long, the excitement of making the knife was broken. Then he remembered the excitement that woodworking had brought in high school. Because he didn’t have the space for flat work, he borrowed a lathe and began wood turning. He rekindled the joy of making bowls and other round objects. After honing his turning skills he found he particularly liked making wooden boxes as well as items from non-traditional materials. He enjoys incorporating dyes and paints into his wooden objects.
