Glen Grismer

Glen Brent Grismer
1953-2023

Glen Brent Grismer, born February 20th, 1953, ended his battle with cancer on August 16th, 2023, in the arms of his loving wife Sandra (nee Stewart), embraced by nature, under the Saskatchewan sky.  He was surrounded by his daughter Jody (Chris) Rempel, son Paul (Gizelle) Grismer and treasured grandchildren Maria Rempel and Tyson Grismer.

Coming of age in a changing world, Glen chose the pursuit of enlightenment, peace, love and improving the world around him.  He earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts in Geography from the University of Saskatchewan.  He spent much of life striving to create harmony between people and the land around them. He greatly valued the teachings of the Elders he worked with on the development of the Wanuskewin heritage site, it guided him during Meewasin Valley projects and was a recurring theme in his teaching of municipal planning at the University of Saskatchewan.

Glen’s lust for life, curiosity and courage would not allow him to stay still for long.  He had a love of football that included the Roughriders, Huskies, and coaching youth teams.  He enjoyed anything that brought him close to nature including hiking, kayaking, and traveling the skies with a private pilot license.  Glen explored his creativity through sketching, painting, blacksmithing and involvement within the Saskatchewan arts and crafts community.

Glen held dear the challenge of mentorship, in every aspect of his life.  He relished any opportunity to help someone achieve their best.  This included coaching ethical play and skills development to football players, teaching professionalism and integrity to his university students, and embodying love and support to his family.

Above all, Glen’s life was a love story.  He treasured Sandra, his high school sweetheart, and the love of his life.  Home for him was always wherever Sandra was, so he hasn’t gone far.  They are forever in the warmth and embrace of each other’s hearts.

Glen and his family would like to thank everyone involved with the Cancer Centre, homecare, and end-of-life care. Glen asked that the family not plan a public gathering but instead invite family, friends, and former colleagues to pause to recall a favorite story or event.  UNICEF is suggested for those wishing to make a memorial donation.
