How would you describe what craft is?
Craft is an extension of oneself, without boundaries. It is a connection of inner spiritual expression through an endeavour that binds both the artist and observer in some form of communication.
Where did you learn your craft?
I have a jewellers certificate from the Sturgeon Creek Collegiate Jewellery Program in Winnipeg, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honours degree from the University of Manitoba.
What is your inspiration?
For my etched pieces, I am interested in symbolism; from ancient symbols and historical motifs, as well as folklore concerning animals and nature. Symbols can be a powerful influence in your life. Abstract qualities such as courage, wisdom, have been expressed in stories for thousands of years. We find meaning and connection to the natural world in the transformation of a dragonfly or the legends of the mystical Phoenix.
The Halo line of rings and earrings are more Modernist, with influences that range from brutalist sculpture, to textures from the natural world found in the sea, tree bark, and stone.
