Richard Pratchler
Richard Pratchler first became interested in woodworking in high school when his brothers bought him a wood lathe. Once Richard left for university, he found he didn’t have the proper space for woodworking. Because of this, he didn’t touch a lathe for over 20 years.
Eventually one weekend when he was home trimming caragana at the family farm, he started collecting interesting pieces and branches to make candleholders out of. This rekindled his interest in woodworking. After that he got his old lathe back and started turning wood once more.
From there he joined the Hub City Turners in Saskatoon where he gained insights and knowledge from the experienced woodturners. With his newfound insights and techniques, he began taking an interest in embellishment using different turning methods and wood burning, as well as using epoxy to make intricate bowls and vases.
Currently, Richard is primarily interested in the process of creating bowls from pieces of boards. This technique involves cutting different boards into rings, gluing them together, and then lathing them into a finished piece.
