Rick Hounjet

he/him

Rick Hounjet is from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and became interested in woodworking at a young age. He always admired the art of wood turning and eventually dedicated his time to learning new skills. Ten years ago, Rick joined a local wood turning group called Hub City Turners and has spent many hours improving his techniques and developing skills whilst observing the experienced wood turners in the group. Over the years, Hounjet’s hobby has become a passion, experimenting and working with wood dyes . He admires how several layers of colour can bring out the natural beauty of the wood grain. Rick spends time creating nature scenes and floral patterns using dyes and pyography techniques. Natural wood inclusions, voids, knots and cracks are often incorporated into the scenes he creates.  Over the years, Hounjet has received recognition for wood turnings with first, second and third place standings at the Saskatchewan Art Showcase at Prairieland Exhibition and had the opportunity to showcase his woodwork at his own showing at Gallery on the Greens in Saskatoon. Rick continually enjoys developing new ideas and techniques to create pieces that bring out the beauty of the natural wood.
