Wearable Art 2

InstagramThis exhibition showcases the work of artisans whose work was featured in the 2nd Saskatchewan Wearable Art Gala held at the Roxy Theatre in Saskatoon on November 14, 2015. Influenced by wearable art shows such as the World of Wearable Art Show in New Zealand and the Wearable Art Awards in Port Moody, BC, this exhibition is a vibrant and dynamic example of the wearable art scene.

Amy Skrocki_ FREYA_corsetWearable Art is not about fashion. Wearable Art is primarily concerned with using materials and methods not traditionally, or typically, associated with clothing, fashion or haute couture. It is about exploring unusual design concepts and creating wearable items using non-traditional materials and construction methods. This exhibition features work not only from Canada but beyond Canada’s borders.

The Gala was a performance event where wearable art and the human body united to create artistic expressions. This exhibition allows the viewer to examine these garments more closely. Various methodologies and materials have been used to create this spectacular presentation.

We wish to thank the U of S Drama Department, as well as individual artists for lending mannequins for display. Special thanks to Lindsay Embree and Arnfinn Prugger for organizing the Saskatchewan Wearable Art Gala and for assisting in this exhibition.
