Evan Quick
“Born and raised in Regina, my prairie roots run deep. I earned a BFA Honours cum laude in 1976, receiving the Judy Poole award upon graduation. Outside the studio I have been a world traveller, trekker, athlete, gardener and reader, with the two world wars being a subject of keen interest. I worked for Air Canada for 35 years, retiring at the end of 2012. Art and art history have always been a constant; however, it has only been since 2013 that I have again been a practicing artist. In Dimensions 2019 I received the Les Potter Award for Excellence in Sculpture.”
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Evan Gordon Quick. Evan passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, surrounded by family. He was predeceased by his parents Edward and Joan Quick. Evan is lovingly remembered and survived by his wife of 34 years, Luanne, son Graham, daughters Leah and Andrea (Jon), his sister Pamela Smith, as well as his nephews and niece.
Evan was born on December 2, 1950 in Regina, Saskatchewan. He attended Davin Elementary School before moving on to Luther College High School where he was part of the school’s 1968 provincial championship basketball team. Evan attended both the University of Regina and University of Saskatchewan. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a BFA, Honours cum laude in 1976.
Evan began work with Air Canada in 1977 where he remained for 35 years. His work with Air Canada provided a means for him to travel the world, ultimately visiting over 50 countries. His favourite destination was London, England where he would spend time visiting with family and friends, exploring its history (particularly that of the two world wars), and revisiting its treasured art and culture. Evan also enjoyed extensive travel with his wife and children, as time spent with family was his greatest joy.
Evan embraced new challenges with enthusiasm and always welcomed the opportunity to make new friends. In 2007 he became extensively involved in fundraising for the Arthritis Society through the Joints in Motion program. He completed numerous treks, including Mount Kilimanjaro, Everest Base Camp and the Inca Trail in Peru. He raised substantial funds for the charity and established enduring friendships with fellow trekkers.
Upon retirement Evan returned to his passion of ceramic sculpting. Most of his days were spent in his studio at Flatlands, an artists’ co-op in Regina. An upcoming two-man show titled “Mud Matters” will feature recent works of Evan and Charley Farrero at the Saskatchewan Craft Council Gallery in Saskatoon from July 13, 2024 to September 7, 2024.
