Cecilia J. Cote

Cecilia J. Cote (Cec) juried in Clay and Sculpture, has been a member of the Saskatchewan Craft Council since 1975 as one of the many founding members.  She served two terms on the Board of Directors; worked as an SCC Gallery Assistant; and has sponsored the Dimensions Award for Excellence in Functional and Production Ware since 2002.  In 2016, she received an Honorary Lifetime Membership Award to the SCC.

While the incentive for creating in clay (imposing preconceived ideas) and soapstone (exploring, reacting to, and developing the hidden imagery) differs with the two mediums, curiosity is the drive behind the need to make.  This creativity is the culmination of encouraged childhood investigation into the natural world around her involving taking apart found items to reveal the core, reinventing them, all the while storing the mental images.  A love of reading expanded her local borders, adding to the wealth of subconscious imagery to influence her work.
