Finishing my first year at Humber Lakeshore College in the Fashion Management Program was an accomplishment my young-self had only dreamed of. Saying that packing up my life to go to school in Toronto was an adjustment would be a severe understatement, and I was looking forward to heading back to the welcoming city of Saskatoon I had always called home. Although, as my school year neared to an end, I was uncertain about what I would be doing with all my newfound time away from college.
While I was packing my bags to return to Saskatoon, my sister — a former SCC summer student — Olivia Adams sent me a link to the job opportunity at the Saskatchewan Craft Council. I was thrilled at the thought of a possible summer job with such an amazing local organization, and with the application deadline nearing, I typed up the most convincing application I could muster up and sent it off. Well, after a couple emails and an interview, we are now here and I am thrilled to be this year’s Member Services Assistant!
Well, I guess I should talk a little bit about me. As mentioned before, I go to school in Toronto but I was born and raised in Saskatoon. I have tried my hand at different forms of art from piano to painting with acrylics to good old fashioned sketching, but my heart lies with design and fashion. As a kid, I quickly found a love of fashion and design always sketching my new clothing lines and red carpet looks. As for my own style, thank goodness it has evolved past wearing monochromatic outfits and a different headband for every day of the week. When I was younger, I would drag my mom around the city looking at endless pairs of shoes until I found the perfect pair to wear on the first day of every new school year – you can say I’m a bit of a perfectionist. Nowadays, you can always find me posting about my favourite new trends and looks on what I like to call my style diary on Instagram at @stressedinstyle. Feel free to follow me!
I am thrilled to be joining the team here at the SCC! This is an amazing opportunity which I am grateful for, and I have to say I have a feeling this will be one amazing summer. If you have any questions or wish to contact me, I can be reached at scc.research@sasktel.net or (306) 653-3616 ext. 9.
