Dimensions is the Saskatchewan Craft Council’s open, juried exhibition which encourages and rewards excellence in hand-crafted work. Every four years all Saskatchewan craftspeople are eligible to submit up to two hand-crafted items. Two experienced jurors are tasked with selecting the pieces for the exhibition, as well as deciding which pieces merit the many available awards.

Dimensions 2025 is open to all craftspeople and artists living and working in Saskatchewan.

Entries are only accepted by completing the online submission form and (if applicable) paying entry fees.

Eligible Media

Eligible media include works produced in any of the following craft media: basketry, calligraphy, clay, fibre, glass, metal, paper, photography, printmaking, wood, jewellery, sculpture, seed beading, or any combination of craft media (mixed media).

All work must be original in concept, design, and execution (kits or commercially designed works will not be accepted).

All work must have been completed within the past two years (2022-2024) and not previously been exhibited at the Saskatchewan Craft Council Gallery.

The SCC will not be accepting painting and drawing submissions to Dimensions 2025. SCC visual arts members in good standing continue to have access to other SCC benefits, programs, and projects.

Collaboration

Craftspeople/artists can enter collaborative works – all collaborators must be listed at the time of application. Collaborative works count as one entry for each artist. Only one entry fee is required per entry. If all collaborators are members of the Saskatchewan Craft Council in good standing, the entry fee will be waived. If a collaboration work is selected for exhibition, one artist royalty is to be shared between collaborators.

The Saskatchewan Craft Council encourages creative freedom and respectful collaboration. CARFAC has outlined the principles of responsible creative collaboration with Indigenous and other cultures:
1. Free prior and informed consent;
2. Shared control over process and product;
3. Acknowledgement and attribution;
4. Respect for cultural differences; and
5. Reciprocity and benefit sharing.
It is expected that all Dimensions entries meet these standards in the creation of the work. More information on CARFAC’s appropriation guide can be found here.

Images

Minimum 3 images, maximum 10 images.
Please include at least one of the following for each entry:

  • Presentation view – how a viewer would look at the piece or approach it in a gallery.
  • Detail image – show the jurors something you are proud of – seams, textures, details…
  • Underside/back finishing – show the jurors the back or the bottom of your entry – whichever area shows your finishing work appropriately. E.g., a quilter may photograph the back of their piece; a ceramic artist may show the bottom of a finished pot.

Follow this link for detailed image requirements and helpful tips on how to photograph your work at home.

Artist Fees

The Saskatchewan Craft Council pays a one-time artist fee based on the 2025 CARFAC minimum fee schedule for each piece in the exhibition.

Sales

Submissions to Dimensions 2025 may be for sale or not for sale at the artist’s discretion. The Saskatchewan Craft Council will be responsible for any sale and delivery of works sold from the Dimensions 2025 exhibition. The SCC retains a commission of 40%.

Liability & Insurance

Entrants are responsible for their own transit insurance and shipping costs to and from the Saskatchewan Craft Council. The SCC assumes responsibility for the artwork once it is in the SCC’s possession and for the duration of the exhibition. Further information about insurance will be provided to selected participants.

Number of Entries and Entry Fees

Artists are limited to a maximum of two entries. There is a $40.00 (CAD) non-refundable fee for each entry. Entry fees are waived for Members of the Saskatchewan Craft Council in good standing at the time of entry. Artists may apply to become a member in lieu of paying the entry fee(s). Learn more about additional membership benefits and complete the application form here

The deadline for submission of the entry form is March 24, 2025; payment must be completed by April 1, 2025. Entries with outstanding fees past this deadline will not be included for consideration by the jurors.

Jurying Process

All works will be subject to the jurying process based on the electronic submission. The jurors will select a number of works for the second round of jurying, which takes place in-person at the Saskatchewan Craft Council Gallery in Saskatoon. Artists whose works have been selected for in-person jurying will be notified no later than Tuesday, April 8, 2025. Works must be properly packaged to withstand transport by trucking companies and delivered to the SCC by Wednesday, April 30, 2025. Late entries, entries arriving without previous notification, or improperly packed entries will be returned prior to jurying.

Dimensions is a “blind jury” – this means that jurors will not be aware of the name or artistic history of the person who made the work. The Saskatchewan Craft Council reserves the right to use digital images of submitted work for any activity related to Dimensions programming. Please refrain from posting about your entry on social media until after jurying is finalized.

The jurors’ decision on selections from the entries is final. Although only a small number of pieces are selected for the exhibition, we wish to celebrate all artists who created work for consideration. All entries will be available to view on an online gallery, while those selected for in-person jurying will be featured in the in-person open house. The jurying process is subjective and imperfect, and the purpose of Dimensions is to celebrate fine craft and the value it holds in community. If you would like to hear constructive feedback from the jurors, a limited number of private sessions will be available by registration.

Size Limitation

Submissions are restricted to a weight limit of no more than 75 pounds. The Saskatchewan Craft Council reserves the right to exclude any entry that presents significantly complex installation or would not be reasonably and safely withstand shipping. Please contact us if you would like more information.

Works accepted for exhibition must be ready to install, prepared with instructions for installation or suitably framed. Two-dimensional work must be framed and have hanging hardware (e.g. picture wire) installed.

Dimensions Feedback Sessions

Dimensions Program – Opportunity for artists to get critical feedback on artwork from peers. Deadline for Application: Monday, January 6 at 11:59pm

The Saskatchewan Craft Council invites you to be part of a group feedback session on Thursday, January 16, at 6:30 pm on Zoom. You may present up to 2 works that are either in progress or completed to discuss with fellow SCC members. Each person will have up to 20 minutes to ask questions to the group and get insight on their art.

This feedback session is part of our Dimensions program. Feedback on your works may help prepare you in the application to Dimensions or simply offer new perspectives to inform your practice.

Feedback is a vital part of artistic growth and development. As artists we seek out critiques from fellow artists, mentors, and gallery visitors. We must learn to be open to constructive criticism and use it as a tool for improvement and innovation.
