The Narrative Dish II

Group Exhibition

Exhibition Dates: March 9, 2019 - April 27, 2019

Reception: March 16, 2019 2:00 pm - 5 pm

Saskatchewan Craft Council is pleased to present The Narrative Dish II — an exhibition of ceramic work from six Canadian artists. The show runs March 9th to April 27th, 2019 in Saskatchewan Craft Council Gallery at 813 Broadway Avenue in Saskatoon.

In this exhibition of contemporary works, humour, poetry, environmental decay, and concern about our present cultural and political state are all themes which are explored through these art objects. The centuries old practice of telling stories using functional ceramics is the inspiration for this exhibition.

Carole Epp — a Saskatoon-based ceramicist, participating artist, and main coordinator of the exhibition — discusses the nature of artists using narratives in their work:

“For me, my definition [of narrative] is quite broad as even the simplest of mark making, form development, and decoration can allude to a wealth of cultural practices, histories, and thus narrative. That is part of the endless joy of working in this material; its history is ingrained in the social fabric of humanity.”
